Liliana and Her Cats Adventures - The Snow Day Rescue
Written By, Lisa Fallon
Snow drifted through the air in slow, glittering swirls. Liliana pressed her hands to the windowpane outside. “The first snow of winter,” she whispered to the cats through the glass. Piper blinked wisely. Leia flicked her tail. Bonnie pawed at the frost on the glass. And Zeus meowed, eager for adventure.
Bundled in her red scarf, coat, mittens and boots, Liliana walked out in the snow heading to the sledding hill. The cats followed, leaving tiny pawprints behind her. The world was quiet—just snow, trees, and the soft whisper of wind. "Let’s explore.” Liliana said. “But stay close.” She told them.
They built little snow mounds, chased flakes and rolled snowballs down the hill. Leia pounced and disappeared in a puff of white snow. Bonnie darted after the rolling snowballs. Piper ran and pounced in the snow and Zeus ran alongside waiting for his turn to roll in the snow.
Then Liliana stopped. She tilted her head. From somewhere beyond the trees came a faint, high-pitched whimper. "Did you hear that?” she asked softly. The cats froze, and their ears perked. The sound came again, a small, shivery cry, half-buried by the snow. Liliana followed it toward a drift near the old fence. There, tangled in branches, was a tiny white puppy with fur as bright as the snow.
“Oh, you poor thing.” Liliana whispered. The puppy’s fur was frosted with snow, and its paws trembled. “It’s okay.” Liliana scooped the puppy into her arms. “You’re safe now,” she said, wrapping her in her scarf. The puppy licked her chin and gave a tiny, grateful yip. Liliana smiled. “Let’s get you warm, little puppy.” They all walked back home with the puppy safe in Liliana's arms.
Back home, she set the puppy by the fire on a soft blanket. The cats gathered close, forming a furry circle of warmth. The puppy’s shivers slowed. Her eyes began to close, tired but peaceful in the warmth of the fire. She fell asleep.
As the puppy slept, Liliana looked at the puppy’s collar. There was her name, “Snowflake” spelled out on her dog collar, but no address. “Someone must be missing you Snowflake,” she said softly. “We’ll help you find your home tomorrow.” Outside, snowflakes floated gently down.
The next morning, sunlight glittered across the snow. Liliana pinned a note to the community board - FOUND - One white puppy, safe and warm. Named “Snowflake." That afternoon, a knock came at the door. A boy stood there, his cheeks red from the cold. “You found Snowflake!” he cried, scooping the puppy into his arms. Liliana was overjoyed she had found Snowflake's owner. "Let's get you both safely home now." She said to them.
As she walked them both home, Liliana smiled. The cats followed behind the boy as Snowflake wagged her fluffy tail. “Goodbye, Snowflake,” she said softly. “Thank you for keeping her warm and safe.” the boy said to Liliana and her team. He ran down the street back home with the puppy safely tucked in his arms.
That evening, the fire crackled softly in the fireplace. Liliana curled up on a pillow holding her teddy bear in front of the fire. The world outside was blanketed in snow. All the cats surrounded her in the warmth of the evening. “Four cats.” she whispered. “My team. My family. My everything.” The cats purred in reply as snowflakes danced outside the window.
That evening as Liliana was getting ready for bed, she dreamed of having a little white puppy of her own someday.
