Wisdom's Winding Wonder Machine
By Dr. Sylvia Hill
Wisdom loved making long, silly machines that did one simple, surprising thing.
Today Ms. Carter announced show-and-tell, and Wisdom raised his hand with a grin.
He lined up marbles, dominoes, spoons, a toy boat, and a wobbly rubber duck like a tiny city of gears.
A sudden breeze knocked a paper sail into the wrong path, and a marble rolled toward trouble.
Wisdom stayed calm; he explained each step like a story, showing how one small push becomes a big result.
Maya and a few classmates added a ribbon and a paper bridge, and the machine grew taller and kinder.
When they let go, the chain reaction surprised everyone — marbles leapt, a toy boat sailed, a lamp blinked, and paint droplets danced.
The real surprise came when the machine gently released tiny paper seeds that spilled into pots and sprouted paper flowers across the classroom.
Wisdom learned that explaining with clear steps and listening to helpers can turn a small idea into something wondrous, and the class clapped for the boy who taught them to build together.
