Liliana and Her Cats Adventures - The Pumpkin Patch
By, Lisa Fallon
The air was crisp and smelled of apples and hay. Liliana buttoned her coat and tied her orange scarf. “It’s pumpkin-picking day!” she said happily. Zeus flicked his tail, ready for the task. Bonnie trotted beside her, neat and graceful. Leia observed from her perch on the hay bale. And Piper chased leaves as they swirled in the wind.
At the pumpkin patch, rows of orange globes glowed in the sunlight. Liliana’s eyes sparkled. “Look at them all!” she said. “Big ones, small ones, round ones, tall ones!” The cats leapt from the wagon, tails high with excitement.
Zeus inspected each pumpkin carefully. “This one’s too flat,” Liliana said. Leia circled another, nodding her approval. Bonnie climbed onto one and wobbled, her tail twitching. And Piper darted between vines, playing hide-and-seek.
They found the perfect pumpkin—bright orange and perfectly round. Liliana smiled. “This one’s just right!” But when she tried to lift it, the pumpkin wouldn’t budge. “Oh dear,” she said, laughing. “It’s heavier than I thought!”
Zeus stood beside her, strong and steady. Leia pawed at the vines, loosening them carefully. Piper gave the stem a playful tug. And Bonnie meowed loudly as if cheering them on. Together, they rocked the pumpkin free.
They rolled it toward the wagon, slow and steady. But just as they reached the hill—a gust of wind whooshed through the field! The pumpkin wobbled once, twice…and then rolled away with Leia inside the wagon!
“Catch it!” cried Liliana. "Hold on Leia!" She said. "We're coming!" Down the hill it went, bouncing and rolling. Liliana raced after it, her scarf flying behind her. Zeus trotted close by. Bonnie thru her paws up in the air and Piper chased behind Liliana. Together they steered it toward a pile of hay. Leia leapt out landing on a bale of hay. "Whoosh"! Thump! The pumpkin landed safely.
Liliana laughed, breathless and smiling. “You did it!” she said, hugging Leia. "Thank goodness you landed safely Leia". She said to her. Zeus leaped up in the air cheering everyone on with pride. Leia snuggled with Liliana glad the bumpy ride was over. And Bonnie and Piper were giggling over the adventure.
They pushed the pumpkin back into the wagon. As the sun set, the fields turned gold and pink. Liliana looked around and sighed happily. “Four cats,” she whispered. “My team. My family. My everything.”
On the ride home, the wagon rattled softly. The cats dozed against the pumpkin’s warm, smooth side. Liliana hummed a tune as the stars began to twinkle overhead. Sitting on the wagon she thought about how it had been a perfect pumpkin-picking day.
