Liliana and Her Cats Adventures - The Lost Kitten
Written By, Lisa Fallon
It was a bright spring morning. Sunlight poured through the kitchen window, and Liliana’s four cats stretched lazily in the warmth. Zeus sat eyes closed, wise and sleepy. Piper purred softly, neat and graceful. Bonnie chased a dust mote in the air. And Leia rolled onto her back, paws up, ready for belly rubs.
Liliana hummed as she packed a little basket. “Let’s go have a picnic in the secret garden,” she said. Four tails swished in agreement. Leia was rolling around happily looking at all the treats she was packing of course, and they all meowed loudly, eager to go outside.
The garden was full of spring sounds—birds singing, bees buzzing, rabbits hopping in the bushes. Liliana spread a blanket under the big pine tree where she found her missing red ribbon the other day. Piper decided she wanted to climb the tree again, as Leia rolled over again waiting for her treat. They were all hungry and waiting to see what Liliana had packed for them to eat.
As Liliana was unpacking her picnic basket, she heard it—a tiny, trembling mew. She looked around. The cats ears perked up. Under a bush, beside the flowers, a pair of frightened green eyes blinked back at her.
“Oh! A kitten,” Liliana whispered. It was small and gray, the colors just like Zeus. The kitten mewed again, soft and sad. She scooped the little kitten up into her arms. “We have to help,” she said. Zeus stepped forward first, calm and steady. He crouched low, showing the kitten there was nothing to fear. Leia followed, tail high but gentle, her purr a quiet invitation. Bonnie and Piper waited behind, eyes wide, whiskers twitching.
Liliana knelt down, holding out a bit of her sandwich crust. “Here, little one,” she said softly. The kitten crept forward—one paw, then another—and nibbled from her hand. Soon the kitten was brave enough to step out of the bushes. Bonnie sniffed its nose in greeting. Leia mewed a soft greeting and rolled in the grass. Liliana smiled. “You’re safe now, we will find your home.” She said to the little kitten.
Liliana packed up their picnic and headed back home. But when she looked around, she realized something—no one nearby her home seemed to be looking for a lost kitten. "Maybe it wandered away from its home,” she said. “We’ll help it find its family.”
When they got back to the house, they searched her street together. Piper led the way, steady and sure. Leia peered behind the trees along the way. Bonnie darted through flowers, smelling them all. Zeus meowed cheerfully to keep the kitten calm.
At last, they heard a voice calling, “Clover! Clover! where are you?” Yelled out a little boy down the street. The kitten perked up, ears high. It gave a joyful "mew" and scampered toward the sound. The little boy ran up, laughing with relief. “You found her!” He said. Liliana smiled as she handed the little kitten to the boy. He scooped the kitten into his arms. “We found Clover in our secret garden and knew she must’ve been lost.” she said softly. “You have a secret garden?” The little boy asked. “Yes.” She told him. Liliana told him all about her discovery they had all made. “I can take you there some day if you want?” She told him. “Oh Yes, I would like that very much!” He agreed excitedly. “I have to bring Clover back home now.” He told her. “Thank you for bringing her home!” And off he went happily hugging his little kitten close in his arms, as he waved back to them, and ran down the street towards his house.
The sun was just beginning to set when Liliana reached her home. Her cats trotted beside her, tails brushing her knees. “What a good day,” she said. “A real adventure.” Liliana set the basket down and curled up on her blanket. The cats sat by her feet on the porch and watched the sunset in the back yard. Zeus washed his paws. Piper sniffed some leftover treats on the blanket. Liliana smiled. “Four cats,” she whispered. "My team. My family. My everything.”
