Liliana and Her Cats Adventures -The Picnic Surprise
Written By, Lisa Fallon
The morning was bright and golden. Liliana packed a basket with strawberries, sandwiches, cookies and lemonade. Her four cats waited eagerly by the door. “Let’s ask the little boy Tommy, down the street to join us!” She said to her cats. Zeus pawed at the basket. Leia looked anxiously at the basket eyeing all the snacks. Bonnie jumped at a spill on the floor. And Piper sat eagerly by the door ready to go. “Are we all Ready?” Liliana smiled. “Let’s go on a picnic!”
Tommy joined them bringing his little kitten clover with him, and they headed to a meadow beyond the hill. Butterflies danced above the wildflowers and a warm breeze carried the scent of lavender. Liliana spread the blanket beneath a cluster of willow trees. The cats stretched out around her, tails twitching with contentment. Liliana unpacked the picnic. But before she could pour the drinks, Leia's ears perked up. Something rustled in the tall grass.
“Did you hear that?” Liliana whispered. Zeus lifted his head. Leia crouched behind the tree. Piper’s whiskers quivered. The grass swayed again—then out popped a tiny bunny rabbit! The bunny rabbit froze, nose twitching. Bonnie froze too, eyes wide with surprise. Liliana and Tommy held very still. "Hello, little one,” she said softly. “Would you like to join our picnic?”
The bunny rabbit hopped closer—sniffed the basket—and nibbled on a fallen strawberry. Zeus purred approvingly. Liliana tore a piece of sandwich bread and set it down. The bunny rabbit ate happily, crumbs on its whiskers. Leia, Bonnie and Piper were all watching from the bushes waiting to pounce on the scraps.
They all played together in the meadow—Bonnie leapt after the bunny rabbit who darted in front of her. While the others chased their shadows across the sunlit grass. Piper full from lunch just sat and watched. Liliana laughed so hard her lemonade nearly spilled. "What a surprise this picnic turned out to be!” Tommy said to her.
When the sun began to drift lower, the bunny rabbit twitched its ears toward the trees. “I think it’s time for our new friend to go home,” said Liliana. “Goodbye, little one. Thank you for the company.” The bunny rabbit gave one last hop and disappeared into the tall grass.
As Liliana was unpacking the basket, the bunny rabbit returned with her baby bunny followed by three new cats! Leia, Bonnie, Piper and Zeus lay sprawled and sleepy, their fur warm from the sun. Piper yawned. Leia cleaned her paws. Bonnie purred softly. They were all wondering where all of the new mystery cats who looked just like them came from. As Tommy sat enjoying a lollipop Liliana had packed just for him, he wondered too. "Oh my goodness" Liliana gasped. "What are we going to do with all of our new friends?" She said. The bunnies and the new cats ate some snacks Liliana had given them. After their bellies were full, they ran back off into the trees heading back to their homes. "Thank you all for joining our little picnic!" She and Tommy yelled after them.
As they walked home, the sky turned pink and gold. Liliana felt the day’s happiness glowing inside her—a memory to keep, like sunlight in her pocket. Back home, she whispered to her cats as they all sat around her on the front porch - “Four cats—my team, my family, my everything.” Zeus blinked slowly. Liliana smiled. Tomorrow would bring another adventure and she couldn't wait.
